The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has issued an urgent notice alerting residents of a planned 24-hour shutdown of the main water supply pipeline from Sasumua Dam to the capital.
The interruption, scheduled to begin on Wednesday morning, is intended to allow engineers to execute essential repairs and integrate new supply connections aimed at addressing persistent distribution leaks.
Affected Areas and Municipal Response
"We request residents in affected areas to use stored water sparingly as our technical teams work to complete these critical structural upgrades," NCWSC announced in a public statement.
Major estates affected by the interruption include:
Westlands & Parklands: Highridge, Mpaka Road, and lower Spring Valley.
“Emergency maintenance on main supply pipelines will cause temporary water shut-offs across more than 40 estates in Nairobi starting Wednesday.”
Eastlands & Jogoo Road: Makadara, Buruburu, Umoja, and surrounding commercial districts.
Kilimani & Ngong Road: Yaya Centre, Hurlingham, and parts of Lavington.
Hospitality Impact: Hotels, cafes, and commercial laundromats across the CBD have activated auxiliary storage systems.
Restoration Timeline: Water pressures are expected to normalize completely within 12 hours following the completion of repairs.
